Chong Wen Ger | Proposal

Proposal Description
Constructed in 1849, it was one of the earliest schools set up by the Chinese community in Singapore. Located beside the Tian Hock Keng Temple on Telok Ayer Street, it  once housed the Chong Hock Girl's School which only moved out of the premises in 1981. Chong Wen Ge underwent major restoration works in 2001 and was re-opened in 2003.

A concept plan proposal for a Heritage Gallery showcasing the social history and contributions of the Hokkien community in Singapore was developed for the Hokkien Association. The site includes the historical timber pagoda, with the Heritage Gallery spread over two levels and consists of a permanent exhibit, a flexible event space, administrative office, shop and refreshment stand, and outdoor garden.

SIM Heritage Gallery | Design Proposal

Project Description
In an invited tender, the consortium of Equilibrium, FirstSight and FORTH submitted a proposal for the design, artefact management, content research, curatorship and construction of Singapore Institute of Management's (SIM) new Heritage Gallery.

The gallery is conceived as a traversable objet d'art nestled in a double-volume entry foyer space. As a symbol of SIM's 50th anniversary of nurturing future leaders and nation building, the crisp lines, imagined curves and singular material use present a stunning first impression to staff, students and visitors.

The bespoke rhomboid pillar formation creates 4 distinct 'courtyard' zones of embedded content & artefact display, digital media experience, and seating; while at mezzzanine level, time capsules are ensconced within the tallest pillars to be opened a decade later.
